Dear Mason II-
Happy 6-month birthday! You are one half of one year old already. I know that every month I say that time flies, but it really does. You will understand this better when you have your own child.
Six month statistics: Weight: 20 lbs. 10 oz. Length: 27 inches. Head circumference 17.75. Diaper Size: 4 Clothes: 12 months. It seems that the pound you have gained this past month put you over the edge on both diapers and clothes.
This morning you were wearing size three diapers because we were trying to use them up. You had a huge blow-out in the parking lot at Whole Foods this morning, which your dad lovingly cleaned up. It was quite a sight for me to come out of the store and find you naked laying on a plastic garbage bag, hanging off the back edge of the Pilot. Both you and your dad were covered in poo.
Since we have come home from Christmas, your sleeping has finally gotten back on track. Two nights ago you even slept through the night! You still have a few night wakings here and there, but so far things are improving. We are headed to Boston next weekend for your dad’s birthday and I hope it doesn’t throw your sleep out of whack again.
In the past few weeks you have started sitting up on your own. The little play mat that you used to love lying on, now has new interest since you can see the toys from a new perspective. You are still a little wobbly, but doing well.
We haven’t started you on any solid food yet, but I think after we talk to the doctor on Monday she will give us the go ahead. Many of our friends are already feeding their children solids, but we are waiting for you in hopes that you will be spared my allergies. At Whole Foods this morning I bought some organic brown rice cereal. I wonder if you will like it? In preparation for the feedings, you sit in your high chair each evening while we eat dinner. You play with your spoon and some toys. Oftentimes you stick the spoon too far into your mouth and I laughingly say, “Like gag me with a spoon,” in my best valley girl tone. By the time you read this you will probably have no idea what valley girl speak is, but trust me it is funny.
Oh, I forgot to mention that on the way home from Las Vegas at Christmas time, your dad did let you suck on a dill pickle. He was served the pickle with a burger in the airport. You were taking a swing at it so he just handed it to you. We never expected you to like it! You sucked all the little seeds off and gnawed at it for several minutes. Who would of thought that a baby would like a pickle?
I recently read the book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and have been trying to follow the main tenants of the book. It states that you should take a nap after being awake for no more than two hours during the day. Sometimes this works great! For instance, this morning and afternoon you took two good naps. Unfortunately, you really fought this last nap and I just can’t let you cry so you are now sitting in your swing.

You are really reaching out for your toys now. As I said earlier you are sitting in your swing. It has a built in mobile of little fishes and you are squirming around trying to grab them. Each time you get close enough that one brushes your fingers, you squeal with delight. You have also discovered your toes! It is hilarious to watch you try to suck on them when you are being changed. You are so sweet! You grab your little feet and hold on with all your might.

Last week we moved your crib back into your own room. I was really having a hard time sleeping because I would wake up with every little noise you make. Since moving into your room, we both have been sleeping much better. Except, of course, for the first night when I think I went to check on you about 10 times!
Well, my sweet son it looks like you aren’t going to nap in that swing and I think you are starting to get hungry. I have to feed you before I head out for scrapbooking tonight with some friends. You and your dad are going to hang out and eat Spam and Oreo’s. Well, not really, but I’m sure you will have a great time.
I love you more than you can ever imagine!
Love,
Mama
P.S. You also just started blowing raspberries this week! Too cute!
