Out of the Oven

Mason Ryan Turner II was born at 2:21 this morning, weighing nine pounds, two ounces, and measuring 20.75 inches long. He was scheduled to be born via cesarean at noon, but I think he knew it was going to be hot and humid, so he opted for an earlier delivery.

Shortly after midnight, Miriam ran to the bathroom. At first I thought maybe she had a stomach flu or something, but I never heard her get sick, and eventually she said "I think my water broke." We called the doctor, and he told us to head on into the hospital.

Because the baby was still breech, Miriam still had to go in for the cesarean. Luckily, there wasn't a huge rush, so It was not an emergency C. She was in the OR by two, a nurse escorted me in around 2:10, and at 2:21 we heard his loud, beautiful cry. Once the neonatologist checked our boy out, and they cleaned him up a bit, they actually let Miriam hold the baby for a few minutes. Then, I followed him to the nursery, while they gave Miriam her stitches. She was in recovery by 3:00, and we met her there around 3:15. Mason II took to nursing without much trouble at all.

We are exhausted, but just too excited to get much sleep. We'll have some more pictures up in the next few days, but for now you can see this one of him in the nursery.

  1. Yay! Congratulations to all of you!

I hope you're going to be able to take some paternity leave even though there's all that stuff going on at work ... :-(

  2. Yup, I took a week off when he was bron, and I'm taking off a week once Miriam's mom heads beack to Nevada. Trying to maximize how much "help" time Miriam can get.
